According to the Scriptures, creation is a gift from a loving Creator God. From the bodies we inhabit, the air we breathe, the sun we enjoy, the food we eat, the flowers we collect, the water we drink, the ground we walk on and the pets we love, to the pleasures we enjoy and the destinations we visit on vacation, life is full of good gifts that we can manage and enjoy. Creation was through the direct action of the Creator, as opposed to some naturalistic process. The creation took place at the beginning and was finished and complete.
Creation did not extend over an important part of the supposedly vast evolutionary history of the universe. Creation was by the word of the Creator. This point of view is also known as scientific creationism. Polls show that this is the most popular view among American Protestants.
Young creationists on Earth view science and the Bible as overlapping domains of knowledge. Where there is tension between the two points of view, as in Genesis 1, the Bible wins. They see that the Bible is the only reliable source of knowledge about the origin of the Earth and the universe. They believe that the Bible teaches that the Earth and the universe were created over six 24-hour days.
On the contrary, science is not competent to draw conclusions about the supernatural and, therefore, has nothing to say about the role of God as creator or about the Christian view that man is the pinnacle of creation and, therefore, is neutral with respect to the question of God. The term progressive creation comes from Ramm's belief that “the fundamental pattern of creation was progressive. If you don't believe in the doctrine of creation, you probably believe that you didn't come from anyone, that you're alive on earth for nothing, and that when you die you won't go anywhere. As the debates unfolded, controversies arose about the date and nature of creation among biblical Christians.
People who don't understand the doctrine of creation and the doctrines related to it want to die. While some YEC advocates try to develop scientific evidence for a recent creation (known as creation science), others view the entire scientific company with skepticism. In this post, I am going to discuss three Christian views on creation (young-earth creationism, old earth creationism, and theistic evolution) in order to identify points of agreement and points of tension between them and with the vision of science discussed in my previous publications. The three basic interpretations are Young Earth Creationism (YEC), Old Earth Creationism (OEC), and allegorical approaches.
A group of Christians who use the name “evolutionary creationists” or “theistic evolutionists” (TE) believe that God created the Earth with the potential for life to develop by naturalistic methods. While the three viewpoints of creation discussed in this publication differ in their interpretation of the moment and mechanism of creation events, all agree that God is the creator and that man is the pinnacle of his creation. Let's look at three common interpretations of the Genesis creation story, evaluate the importance of the topic for the Christian faith, and examine how a similar controversy was resolved several hundred years ago in a way that complies with the commandments of Christ and the Apostle Paul regarding Christian unity. This is consistent with the scientific view of the fossil record pattern, but the view of progressive creation considers that the origin of life forms in the fossil record is due to millions of acts of special creation and not to the process of evolution by natural selection.
